Chords to "Crazy," and the Role of a C♯ Diminished Chord

The chords to "Crazy" (Patsy Cline recording) include a prominent C♯ diminished chord as a passing chord in the turnaround at the end of the 8-bar verse section. You’d hardly notice the C♯º chord if the tempo weren’t so slow.

But, as the chord map below shows (Figure 96), that diminished chord does catch the ear as the middle part of a chromatic second progression, C – C♯º – Dm7.
